On Record: Legacy of Hip Hop

"On Record" highlights the impact the Columbia community had on the Chicago Hip Hop cultural landscape. The exhibition honors the legends—artists, musicians, DJs, dancers, fashion designers, and entrepreneurs—who not only contributed to the evolution of Hip Hop, but also helped shape the identity of the college as a space where Hip Hop became an integral part of academic life. This includes the establishment of the Hip Hop minor, which continues to serve as a bridge between academic scholarship and cultural practice.

Peeling Back the Layers

Peeling Back the Layers, centers on the concept of how layering manifests in the world around us. The idea of layers is something that can be seen throughout everyday routines. Artists were invited to reflect on their individual experience through the lens of layering whether it be unique to their art practice, identity, or culture. Through the use of printmaking techniques and mixed media, the artists were compelled to think in layers to create their final pieces.

The Art of Carving, Relief Print Workshop

This two hour workshop was run as programming for my exhibition, Peeling Back the Layers. Positioned as a beginner level class, the students that attended this workshop were at all skill levels and carved and printed two linocut blocks.
